Platelet Rich Plasma at The Face Clinic Edinburgh

What is platelet rich plasma?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment is an advanced regenerative medical treatment for the improvement of skin quality, scar reduction and hair loss. The treatment harnesses and amplifies the natural growth factors found in our blood cells to regenerate ageing or damaged tissues and hair follicles.

What does the treatment involve?

The treatment involves taking a small sample of blood, which is processed in a centrifuge.

The platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) is extracted and reintroduced into the target area through micro-injections and using a microneedling device.

How does it work?

PRP contains high concentrations of natural growth factors. When these growth factors are introduced to tissues or hair follicles there is an increase in collagen and elastin production (great for skin rejuvenation and scar improvement / wound healing) and an unregulation in the growth cycle of hair follicles.

How many treatments are needed?

Improvements in skin and scar tissue may be seen after a single treatment, however for best results a course of three treatments is recommended.

For hair growth a course of between three and six treatments is required.

How long do results last?

Results can be long-lasting. For skin  rejuvenation, treatment may be repeated at any time. For hair growth, a single maintenance treatment every 3-6 months is advised.
